San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Welcome to San Francisco International Airport, also known as SFO. The San Francisco bay area is served by three major airports. One of the nation's five busiest, San Francisco International Airport is about 12 miles south near San Bruno off US 101 (Bayshore Freeway); it is served by 50 carriers as well as by private charters.
San Francisco International Airport has four terminals, one of which is an international terminal, and the other three handle domestic and Canada-bound flights. SFO's transit system, AirTrain, links the many parts of San Francisco airport.
SFO Airport offers a wide range of amenities and services, including a choice of diners, shops, spa treatments, wireless Internet access, banking services, a business center, and disabled facilities.

SFO Terminal Info
SFO International Airport is comprised of 4 terminals serving over 230 destinations and 41 million passengers every year.

SFO Parking
SFO International Airport offers parking, short-term and long-term in our central parking area and at off-site locations.

History of SFO Airport

San Francisco Airport was once predominantly cow pasture. It was first named Mills Field Municipal Airport when it opened on May 7, 1927. Eight years later Pan American World Airways began operations at SFO offering a flying boat service across the Pacific. After WWII, United Airlines also began to offer flights from SFO to Hawaii and other U.S. cities. In 1954 the main terminal opened and soon thereafter the airport was renamed San Francisco International Airport. New terminals for domestic flights were built in 1974 and the new $1 billion international terminal opened in December 2000.
